Three questions before you choose

  1. Is it your first bowl?

Choose a set. It comes with the accessories you need to play, so you are ready the day it arrives.

  2. Where will you use it?

To hold in your hand or carry with you, a small bowl. To rest in a room, a larger one, with a deeper and longer sound.

  3. Is it a gift?

Tingsha bells and small sets are the easiest to give: they take little space and need no practice.

Ready-to-play sets

They bring the bowl with the accessories to play it, usually a mallet and a cushion. The simple choice to start or to give as a gift. Check the product page for what each set includes.

Single bowls

Sold as a single piece. They make sense if you already have a mallet and a cushion, or if you want a specific size or design.

Tingsha bells

Two small metal cymbals joined by a cord. One strike gives a high, long sound, used to open and close a practice.

Gong

A large, heavy piece for a fixed place. Think of it for a studio or a dedicated room.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play a singing bowl?

There are two ways. Strike the rim lightly with the mallet for a single sound that lingers. Or rest the mallet against the rim and circle slowly with steady pressure until the bowl starts to sing.

Which size should I choose?

Larger, heavier bowls give a deeper sound that lasts longer. Small bowls give a higher, shorter sound and are easier to hold in your hand. To start, between 10 and 16 cm is comfortable.

Do I need a cushion and a mallet?

Yes, you need both to play. The cushion lets the bowl vibrate freely and the mallet produces the sound. Sets usually include them: check each product page. With a single bowl, expect to get them separately.

Are all bowls the same?

No. Hand-beaten bowls differ slightly from one another in shape and sound. The photos and measurements are the supplier’s and may vary slightly in the piece you receive.
